Texas Offers 1,400-Acre Ranch for Trump’s Mass Deportation Plan
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas General Land Office has offered President-elect Donald Trump a 1,400-acre ranch in Starr County as a potential site to build detention centers for his planned mass deportation of undocumented immigrants. A letter from the office, sent on Tuesday, states that the state is “fully prepared” to collaborate with federal agencies to create facilities for processing and detaining individuals as part of a large-scale deportation effort.
The state recently purchased this land along the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley, with plans to build a border wall. The previous landowner had reportedly obstructed wall construction and restricted law enforcement access to the property.
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The idea of mass deportations was a key component of Trump’s campaign, with his administration previously encountering logistical and legal challenges when attempting to implement such policies.
Texas officials, including Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, are moving forward with initiatives to support Trump’s border enforcement and deportation plans, continuing actions started by Gov. Greg Abbott following Trump’s exit from office.
