Shahid Kapoor in Talks for Udta Punjab 2 as Ekta Kapoor Plans Sequel

Ekta Kapoor is reportedly working on Udta Punjab 2, a sequel to the 2016 crime drama that explored Punjab’s drug crisis. Filmmaker Aakash Kaushik has been brought on board to write and direct the film. While the project is still in early development, reports suggest that Shahid Kapoor is being considered for the lead role.

New Director, Different Storyline:
Unlike the original film, which was directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the sequel will be helmed by Aakash Kaushik, known for his work on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Housefull 4. However, Udta Punjab 2 will not be a direct continuation of the first part but will once again tackle Punjab’s ongoing drug problem. Since Abhishek Chaubey is occupied with other projects, he will not be involved in the sequel.

Ekta Kapoor is keen on casting Shahid Kapoor, but discussions are still at a preliminary stage. The final decision will be made once the script is locked. If things go as planned, the film’s production is expected to begin next year.

Apart from Udta Punjab 2, Ekta Kapoor is also developing Dream Girl 3 and a sequel to Veere Di Wedding. However, The Dirty Picture 2 and A Flying Jatt 2 remain uncertain.
