Riteish Deshmukh Prepares for OTT Debut with ‘Pill,’ Reflects on Film Career
Riteish Deshmukh, who began his acting career in 2003 with ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam,’ has been a significant presence in Indian cinema. After making his mark in both Hindi and Marathi movies, he is now set to make his OTT debut with the web series ‘Pill.‘
As he eagerly awaits the premiere of ‘Pill,’ Riteish reflected on the differences between his film debut two decades ago and his upcoming OTT debut. In an interview with DNA, he shared memories of his first film, saying, “It was just a new energy; we did what we had to do.” He admitted that he had no clear direction at that time.
In contrast, his OTT debut comes with years of experience. Riteish feels more skilled and knowledgeable about filmmaking now. He has been looking to work in the OTT space for a long time but waited for the right project. The opportunity came when producer Ronnie Screwvala and filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta collaborated to create ‘Pill.’ Riteish described ‘Pill’ as a “clutter-breaker show.”
Riteish also shared his thoughts on the future of online streaming platforms. He believes that the “OTT format will stay for a long, maybe forever.” He appreciates the creative freedom these platforms offer, allowing filmmakers to explore stories without the pressure of runtime constraints. He also noted that actors are getting more substantial and varied roles in the OTT space.
‘Pill’ will start streaming on Jio Cinema on July 12. Fans are eagerly awaiting Riteish’s new venture, which promises to showcase his talent in a fresh and exciting format.
