Ratan Tata, Iconic Industrialist and Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus, Dies at 86

Ratan Tata, the revered chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 in a Mumbai hospital. He received treatment in intensive care for several days and underwent routine medical investigations related to his age and health concerns. Despite earlier reassurances that his condition remained stable, his health worsened in recent days.

Tata, a national icon in Indian industry, addressed the public on Monday to dispel rumors about his health. He said, “There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits,” urging people not to spread misinformation. However, concerns mounted after reports surfaced of his deteriorating condition.

Following his death, senior officials from Mumbai Police received notification, and security will increase at Breach Candy Hospital. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expects to visit the hospital.

Ratan Tata’s Legacy
Ratan Tata took over as chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, steering the group into a new era of global expansion. Under his leadership, Tata Sons transformed from a predominantly domestic company into a global conglomerate by acquiring international giants like Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover. The Tata Group, under his guidance, grew into a business empire valued at over $100 billion.

Tata retired from his position in December 2012 and succeeded Cyrus Mistry, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2022.
