Ranveer Singh’s Revelation: Why He Turned Down ‘Kabir Singh’ Revealed by Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga

Sandeep Reddy Vanga unveils Ranveer Singh’s rejection of ‘Kabir Singh’ due to its dark nature, citing concerns about Shahid Kapoor’s track record.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director behind the blockbuster ‘Arjun Reddy‘ and its Hindi adaptation ‘Kabir Singh‘, revealed that Ranveer Singh was initially approached for the lead role in the latter but declined due to the film’s dark narrative not aligning with his preferences at the time.

Expressing his initial intent to work with Ranveer Singh, Vanga stated, “He decided he will not do it because it was too dark for him at that time.” This prompted the director to explore different avenues, ultimately leading to Shahid Kapoor stepping into the role, despite concerns about his box office track record. Vanga believed in Shahid’s talent and was confident in his portrayal, despite skepticism from others about the film’s potential success.

Reflecting on the film’s journey, the director admitted that if ‘Kabir Singh‘ hadn’t succeeded, it would have been a significant setback post the triumph of his debut film. Despite mixed reviews, ‘Kabir Singh‘, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, emerged as a massive hit, grossing approximately ₹380 crore globally, validating Vanga’s trust in Shahid’s prowess as an actor.
