Randeep Hooda to Lead War Drama Based on Operation Khukri

Randeep Hooda gears up for his next project — a gripping war drama inspired by Operation Khukri, one of the Indian Army’s most daring international missions. The film will spotlight the real-life 2000 rescue operation in Sierra Leone, where Indian peacekeeping troops faced a harrowing 75-day hostage crisis.

Operation Khukri, carried out under a United Nations peacekeeping mission, saw 233 Indian soldiers held hostage by rebel forces in the jungles of Kailahun, West Africa. Against impossible odds, the Indian Army launched a counteroffensive that not only rescued their men but also showcased unmatched courage and resilience.

At the heart of the story lies Major General Raj Pal Punia, who served as a young Company Commander with the 14th Mechanised Infantry during the mission. Randeep Hooda will portray the real-life hero, stepping into a role that resonates deeply with his personal sense of patriotism.

Rahul Mittra Films and Randeep Hooda Films have officially acquired the rights to adapt the story, based on the book Operation Khukri: The Untold Story of the Indian Army’s Bravest Peacekeeping Mission Abroad, published by Penguin Random House India.

The film aims to bring attention to an overlooked chapter of India’s military legacy, delving into battlefield strategy, human endurance, and the unshakeable resolve of Indian forces trapped in enemy territory. Viewers can expect a high-stakes narrative packed with emotion, grit, and real-life heroism.
