Raid 2 Movie Review: A Fierce & Fiery Follow-Up That Outshines the Original
Rating: ★★★★½ (4.5/5)
Cast: Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Amit Sial
Director: Raj Kumar Gupta
Script Analysis:
This time, Raid 2 steps away from purely fact-based roots and dives into fiction—and what a ride it is! Ritesh Shah, with co-writers Raj Kumar Gupta, Jaideep Yadav, Karan Vyas, and Akshat Tiwari, has cooked up a script that blends sharp one-liners, nail-biting tension, and power-packed drama.
From Amey Patnaik’s Mahabharata reference to corrupt officers with shady alliances, the film is witty, layered, and gripping. The screenplay is dense but never bloated, moving briskly toward an intense and thrilling finale. It’s a rare sequel that not only holds up to its predecessor—but outshines it.
Star Performances:
Ajay Devgn is in absolute control as Amey Patnaik—his restrained performance brims with quiet intensity and strength. His minimalistic yet powerful delivery gives the character a heroic gravitas without theatrics.
Riteish Deshmukh surprises with a chilling turn as Dada Bhai, a man both ruthless and emotionally tethered to his mother. It’s a career-defining negative role for Riteish, executed with icy finesse.
Vaani Kapoor adds depth in a subdued role, while Amit Sial and Saurabh Shukla are scene-stealers, delivering their lines with flair and edge. Supriya Pathak Kapur brings soul to a role that could’ve easily been lost in melodrama.
The supporting cast, especially Shruti Pandey, Brijendra Kala, Mukesh Tiwari, and Rajat Kapur, all leave an impression with minimal screen time.
Direction & Music:
Raj Kumar Gupta builds on the strength of Raid (2018) and crafts a sequel that’s more ambitious and cinematic. His direction remains grounded yet stylish, allowing room for strong storytelling and powerful visuals. Sudhir K. Chaudhary’s cinematography captures every tense moment with skill, especially during high-stakes raid sequences.
The music is uneven. While Sachin-Jigar’s “Nasha” stands out with a haunting tune, other tracks are just passable. Amit Trivedi’s background score, however, lifts the film’s atmosphere and enhances emotional beats.
Raid 2 Movie Review: The Last Word
Raid 2 is that rare sequel which surpasses the original with a more cinematic punch, stronger writing, and commanding performances. It’s sharp, intense, and designed for both the thinking viewer and the masala fan.
Verdict: Don’t miss this fiery sequel—Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh are dynamite!
