Radhika Madan Addresses Age Gap with Akshay Kumar in ‘Sarfira’

Radhika Madan, 29, stars alongside Akshay Kumar, 56, in the recently released film Sarfira. Despite their significant age gap, the duo’s on-screen chemistry has received widespread appreciation from fans and critics alike. Directed by Sudha Kongara and released on July 12, Sarfira also features veteran actor Paresh Rawal.

Positive Reception and Chemistry

In an interview with India Today, Radhika shared her thoughts on the buzz surrounding the age difference between her and Akshay. “It was there when the film was announced and when the trailer came out. But post the release surprisingly, I read 42 reviews and none of them mentioned the age gap. All they mentioned was they have cracking chemistry, intense chemistry, and lovely chemistry,” she said, highlighting the shift in audience perception after watching the film.

Addressing the Age Gap

Radhika explained that the film handles the age difference thoughtfully and convincingly. “Every explanation is beautifully shown in the film. Everything is addressed from the word ‘go’. The age difference is addressed in my opening scene. The reason you don’t feel that is because Veer and Rani’s [their characters in the film] connection is way deeper,” she added. Radhika emphasized that their characters’ bond is rooted in mutual respect and shared dreams, rather than superficial attributes.

A Deeper Connection

She further elaborated, “They were fighting so hard with people around them to prove their own dream, that when they saw the other person and saw themselves in them, that was the reason for attraction. They felt seen. It was not about how much they earned, or how they looked.”

Backdrop and Inspiration

Set against the backdrop of India’s booming startup culture and aviation industry, Sarfira is the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which starred Suriya and is inspired by events from the life of Air Deccan Founder Captain GR Gopinath. The 2020 original won five National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film and Best Actor, and Sarfira aims to capture the same spirit of determination and innovation.
