Plot Summary
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba kicks off with Taapsee Pannu’s Rani Kashyap embroiled in yet another love triangle, but this time, the stakes are higher. Still haunted by the love of her life, Rishu Saxena (Vikrant Massey), who went to extreme lengths in the first film, she now finds herself with a new lover, Neel (Sunny Kaushal). As Rani’s life spirals into deeper complications, the narrative takes inspiration from crime novels by the fictional writer Dinesh Pandit, which the characters use to navigate their dangerous relationships and crimes.

The love triangle grows more intense when Rani’s passion for Rishu clashes with her new life, and the story becomes a psychological game of who will outsmart whom. With multiple layers of intrigue, the film’s first half successfully pulls the audience into this maze of obsession, love, and crime.

Script Analysis
Kanika Dhillon’s script for Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba follows the established template of the first film—an unconventional, crime-filled love story inspired by pulp fiction. The opening of the movie is thrilling, with a gripping setup for the love triangle between Rani, Rishu, and Neel. The interplay between love, betrayal, and mystery is well-executed, especially in the first half, which builds suspense effectively.

However, the second half loses some steam. As the characters continue to rely on Dinesh Pandit’s novels to guide their increasingly twisted lives, the narrative begins to falter. The plot becomes convoluted, and the once-tight tension begins to unravel, leaving viewers wanting more from the conclusion. Dhillon’s writing, which captivates initially, struggles to maintain its pace and intensity as the movie progresses.

Star Performance
The performances are the highlight of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, keeping the audience engaged even when the script wavers. Taapsee Pannu, reprising her role as Rani, delivers a nuanced performance, effortlessly embodying the complexity of her character. She balances Rani’s seductive and vulnerable sides, holding the film together with her presence.

Vikrant Massey’s portrayal of Rishu continues to impress, especially with his transformation from the timid husband in the first film to a more raw and intense version of himself. His ability to switch between these extremes gives the film a solid emotional core.

Sunny Kaushal as Neel, however, feels like a missed opportunity. While his performance as Rani’s new, somewhat psychotic husband has moments of brilliance, the character itself lacks the depth needed to fully elevate the story. Kaushal’s performance struggles to match the emotional intensity brought by Pannu and Massey, leaving viewers wanting more from his role.

Direction and Music
Jaiprad Desai’s direction shows promise in the first half, where the suspense and love triangle are well-balanced. However, the latter part of the movie falters as the twists and turns become too predictable, diminishing the impact of the film’s climax. Unlike its predecessor, which kept viewers on edge, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba fails to maintain its suspense consistently. The intricate plot points, while interesting, do not land with the same intensity as in the first film.

The music, unfortunately, doesn’t add much to the experience either. While the opening verse of the classic song “Ek Haseena Thi, Ek Deewana Tha” is used effectively, other tracks feel out of place. The soundtrack struggles to complement the story’s mood, and certain songs seem jarring within the darker, thriller context.

The Last Word
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is a tangled web of love, lust, and crime, where Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey shine despite the film’s narrative struggles. The movie presents an intriguing premise, blending elements of Drishyam and Khoon Bhari Maang into a twisted thriller, but it ultimately falls short of delivering a fully satisfying conclusion. While it’s an entertaining watch with some engaging moments, it lacks the depth and suspense needed to make it truly memorable.

Verdict: A solid, if somewhat uneven, sequel that’s worth watching for the performances, but don’t expect the same thrills as the first film.
