Mariah Carey Faces Another Lawsuit Over ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’

Country singer Andy Stone has refiled his $20 million copyright infringement lawsuit against Mariah Carey, claiming he was not properly credited for her holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

Mariah Carey is facing yet another legal challenge regarding her iconic holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Country singer Andy Stone has refiled his $20 million copyright infringement lawsuit, alleging he was denied proper credit for the song.

Stone revived his legal claim in federal court in Los Angeles after initially dismissing it in New Orleans due to a venue issue.

According to his lawyer, Douglas M. Schmidt, Stone’s case is based on substantial similarities between the two songs, with around 50 percent of the lyrics matching closely.

Efforts to settle the matter out of court proved unsuccessful, leading Stone to return to litigation for a financial resolution. Stone, performing as Vince Vance, originally filed the lawsuit in June 2022, alleging that Carey’s song is derivative of his work, both in terms of lyrics and the central theme of rejecting materialism for love.
