Man Killed After His Car Is Stolen in Northwest Dallas

DALLAS – A late-night carjacking in Northwest Dallas turned deadly after a 34-year-old man was fatally shot outside his apartment complex early Monday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the Ventana Ridge Apartments on Lombardy Lane. When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot. He was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition but later died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Juan Hernandez Esparza, 34. Investigators believe he was shot during a car theft and that his injuries went unnoticed for nearly an hour before he was found.

Police are now working to track down the person responsible. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the complex and surrounding businesses to piece together the events leading up to the deadly encounter.

So far, Dallas police have not released any information about a possible suspect or a description of the stolen vehicle.

The shooting adds to growing concerns over violent carjackings in the city. Residents in the Northwest Dallas neighborhood said they are shaken by the incident, pointing to safety worries in apartment complexes where vehicle thefts and burglaries have been reported in the past.

Esparza’s death marks yet another tragic case of violent crime in Dallas, where police have been working to address a spike in robberies and vehicle-related crimes. Officials urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Dallas PD’s homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.

As of Monday afternoon, the investigation remains ongoing.
