Glenn Maxwell Record-Breaking 201* Secures Australia’s World Cup Semi Final Spot

Glenn Maxwell’s astonishing double century led Australia to a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Afghanistan, securing their spot in the World Cup semifinals.

In a stunning comeback, Glenn Maxwell‘s record-breaking double century propelled Australia into the World Cup semifinals with a thrilling 3-wicket win over Afghanistan in Mumbai.

Maxwell’s incredible performance, often known as ‘Big Show,’ saved Australia from a shocking batting collapse initiated by Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai at the Wankhede Stadium.

Scoring an unbeaten 201 runs from 128 balls, Maxwell played a pivotal role in securing the victory, while Captain Pat Cummins contributed with a quick 12 runs off 68 balls. This remarkable feat marked Maxwell‘s record-breaking double century, the highest individual score in an ODI run-chase.

Australia has now joined India and South Africa as the third team to advance to the World Cup semifinals. Maxwell’s 201* is also the third-highest individual score in World Cup history.

Afghanistan, batting first, posted a competitive total of 291/5, with Ibrahim Zadran leading the charge and becoming the first Afghan cricketer to score a century in ODI World Cups. Zadran’s unbeaten 129 runs from 143 balls were complemented by Rashid Khan’s quick 35* off 18 balls.

Australia faced early challenges as Naveen and Omarzai picked off crucial wickets, leaving them at 49/4 in 8.2 overs. However, Maxwell’s extraordinary performance steered Australia to a remarkable win.

This victory, combined with their earlier triumph over England, has secured Australia’s spot in the World Cup semifinals.
