Former Dallas Private School Teacher Arrested for Child Sexual Assault
Dallas police have arrested Matthew Harmon, a former private school teacher, following a year-long investigation into allegations of child sexual assault. Authorities suspect there may be more victims involved.
The Dallas Police Child Exploitation Squad issued an arrest warrant for the 46-year-old Harmon, accusing him of sexually assaulting a child. Police took Harmon into custody, and he was released on bond in May. It remains unclear if Harmon has secured legal representation to speak on his behalf.
Detectives informed NBC 5 that the alleged offense occurred in 2007 and involved a victim Harmon met while working at The Providence School in Dallas. Harmon served as a teacher and coach at the Christian school from 2004 to 2007.
The investigation further revealed that Harmon volunteered at Trinity Christian Academy for several years, assisting with an 8th-grade wilderness camp. Additionally, Harmon worked at the popular summer camp Kanakuk in Durango, Colorado, and Branson, Missouri, from 1995 to the mid-2000s.
Detectives disclosed that Harmon had contact with thousands of children through his various roles in teaching and volunteering. Dallas police have identified additional victims and believe there could be more who have not yet come forward.
Authorities urge anyone with information or who may have been affected to contact the Dallas Police Department’s Child Exploitation Squad. The ongoing investigation aims to ensure justice for all victims and prevent further incidents.
As the investigation continues, the community remains vigilant, hoping for justice and the protection of children from such heinous acts.
