Hundreds gather in Dallas to bid a heartfelt farewell to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, a trailblazer and civic icon who served 30 years in Congress.

Dallas united in solemnity as hundreds congregated at the Concord Church in the Red Bird area on Tuesday to bid a final adieu to the late Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, an icon in civic leadership and advocacy.

Throughout the funeral service, Johnson was hailed as a trailblazer and revered figure by those who shared her journey. Representative Hakeem Jeffries reflected on her impact, stating, “America is better because of EBJ,” acknowledging her 30-year tenure in Congress and her legacy of breaking barriers.

Renowned for numerous firsts, Johnson shattered glass ceilings as the first Black woman elected to public office in Dallas and as a groundbreaking figure in the Texas House and Senate. Fondly known as EBJ, she held the distinction of being the inaugural registered nurse to serve in Congress.

The ceremony witnessed tributes from prominent figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Bill Clinton, praising Johnson’s unwavering dedication to Dallas, Texas, and the nation.
