DFW Airport Breaks Ground on $5 Billion Terminal Expansion Project
DALLAS – DFW Airport has officially broken ground on its first new terminal in nearly two decades. The $5 billion expansion will introduce Terminal F, a 400,000-square-foot modular facility featuring 15 gates, set to open in three years.
The expansion comes at a crucial time as DFW Airport is on track to welcome a record 90 million passengers this year, with the holiday travel season in full swing. CEO Sean Donohue highlighted the timing of the project, emphasizing that the airport’s growth will continue to meet rising demand.
The new terminal will incorporate advanced technology aimed at improving passenger flow through baggage handling and TSA screening. While $1.6 billion of the budget will go towards building Terminal F, the remaining $2.7 billion will be invested in upgrades to the airport’s terminals A and C. Terminal C, the busiest yet most outdated, will undergo a phased redevelopment to enhance its facilities.
DFW is expected to serve 100 million passengers by 2028. The Terminal F design allows for future expansion as needed, and a new Skylink stop will eventually connect all six terminals.
Construction is slated for completion in 2026, though plans do not include a new parking garage. Once finished, Terminal F will become the largest modular project in the airport’s history.
