Derek Hough Wife Hayley Erbert Undergoes Emergency Brain Surgery
Derek Hough shares the news of Hayley Erbert’s emergency craniectomy after a burst blood vessel, shedding light on the delicate situation and her stable condition.
Derek Hough, renowned dancer and “Dancing With the Stars” judge, revealed on Instagram that his wife, Hayley Erbert, underwent emergency brain surgery following a cranial hematoma. Erbert experienced disorientation after their Symphony of Dance tour performance in Washington, D.C., and was hospitalized.
Hough explained that Erbert was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a burst blood vessel, necessitating an emergency craniectomy. Currently, she is in stable condition.
The Mayo Clinic states that intracranial hematomas, caused by a burst blood vessel within the skull, can be life-threatening and often require immediate treatment. A craniectomy involves removing a part of the skull to relieve brain pressure, usually performed in severe brain injury cases.
Though Hough did not disclose details on Erbert’s injury cause, last year, she was in a mountain car accident resulting in minor injuries. Erbert expressed hope for a healthier 2023 after the 2022 incident.
Xochitl Gomez, the recent “Dancing With the Stars” winner, extended well wishes to Erbert, sending positivity and support for her recovery.
