Dallas Approves $15 Million Upgrade for FIFA 2026 Broadcast Hub

Dallas City Council has approved a $15 million investment to transform the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center into the International Broadcast Center (IBC) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The unanimous vote signals Dallas’s commitment to becoming a central hub for the world’s most-watched sporting event.

Key Upgrades and FIFA Partnership

The funds will enhance critical infrastructure, including climate control systems, power sourcing, and other vital features to meet FIFA’s operational requirements. Starting in January 2026, FIFA will utilize the facility for eight months to build and operate the IBC.

This development aligns with ongoing renovations at the convention center. Demolition of certain areas will begin next summer but will pause to accommodate FIFA’s needs, showcasing Dallas’s flexibility and commitment to global collaboration.

Economic Impact and Regional Collaboration

Dallas’s role as a host city is projected to generate a $2 billion economic impact for North Texas. Alongside nine matches at AT&T Stadium and a 39-day Fan Fest at Fair Park, the IBC will amplify the region’s global visibility.

The successful bid was a collaborative effort involving Dallas and North Texas cities, AT&T Stadium, FC Dallas, the Dallas Sports Commission, DFW Airport, and more. This teamwork, along with Dallas’s experience hosting the IBC during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, secured its edge over competitors like Atlanta.

Global Spotlight on Dallas

“This is the perfect backdrop for people broadcasting from downtown Dallas to every corner of the globe. No event unites global citizens more than the FIFA World Cup,” said Jennifer Scripps, CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc.

While further details will emerge in 2024, Dallas is already positioning itself as a global focal point for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cementing its legacy as a premier destination for international events.
