Austin Uber Driver’s Car Stolen by Passenger Claiming ‘Slow’ Drive: Arrest Made
A California woman was arrested in Austin for stealing an Uber driver’s car, alleging the driver was driving too slowly.
A startling incident unfolded in Austin as a California woman, Neusha Afkami, was arrested for allegedly stealing an Uber driver‘s car, citing frustration over the driver’s perceived slow pace. The arrest came after a series of events during a ride to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The Uber driver reported that during the journey, Afkami grew visibly upset over the travel duration. Matters escalated when Afkami, agitated by the perceived delay, reportedly threw the driver’s phone out of the car window.
Seizing the opportunity while the driver fetched her phone, Afkami swiftly took control of the vehicle and drove away, leaving the driver stranded on E Cesar Chavez ramp to Airport Blvd. The abandoned car was later discovered by airport officers in front of a terminal.
Afkami, intercepted by police before boarding her flight, allegedly confessed to commandeering the vehicle to expedite her airport arrival. Additionally, she purportedly used the driver’s credit card for purchases, racking up about $120 at an airport store. Charged with unauthorized motor vehicle use, Afkami faces legal ramifications for the alleged theft as well.
