Anurag Basu Clarifies Delay of Kartik Aaryan–Sreeleela Musical, Denies Saiyaara Comparison

Director Anurag Basu has broken his silence on the delay surrounding Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s untitled romantic musical, clarifying that the postponement has nothing to do with the success of Saiyaara.

Rumors recently suggested that Basu’s musical was being held back due to thematic similarities with Saiyaara, the romantic hit starring debutants Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda. However, in a statement to India Today, Basu explained that the delay was purely due to scheduling conflicts.

He further revealed that Kartik Aaryan was occupied with his other projects, including Karan Johar’s Tu Meri Main Tera, while Basu himself was tied up with the release of Metro… In Dino.

The Kartik–Sreeleela film, touted as a music-driven love story, has generated strong buzz since its announcement. The movie marks the first on-screen collaboration between the two actors and showcases Anurag Basu’s signature style of emotional storytelling layered with soul-stirring music.

Despite the delay, Basu assured fans that the next shooting schedule will begin soon, and the creative vision remains firmly on track.

With both Kartik and Sreeleela balancing multiple big-ticket projects, expectations continue to rise for what could be one of Bollywood’s most heartfelt romances in the coming year.
