Renowned Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has joined the chorus of Bollywood celebrities rallying behind Lakshadweep’s tourism amidst a brewing diplomatic dispute between the Indian archipelago and the Maldives. Bachchan, echoing sentiments shared by stars like Salman Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, John Abraham, and Randeep Hooda, emphasized the importance of supporting Indian tourism amid rising tensions.

Expressing discontent with the perceived challenges to India’s self-dependency, Bachchan took to social media on Monday, voicing his support for Lakshadweep islands. His statement came following a social media clash that escalated into a diplomatic standoff between the two nations.

The spat ignited after three Maldivian ministers were suspended for derogatory remarks directed at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lakshadweep visit and attempts to portray the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives. PM Modi‘s endorsement of Lakshadweep’s tourism triggered a social media confrontation involving Maldivian officials and Indian users.

In response, Bollywood celebrities, aligning with Modi’s vision, publicly backed Lakshadweep’s tourism initiatives. Their support highlights the unity within the Indian film industry in endorsing and preserving the nation’s self-sufficiency while promoting its picturesque destinations like Lakshadweep.
