American Airlines Inaugurates First U.S. Flight to Tulum’s New Airport

American Airlines marks a milestone by launching the first U.S. flight to Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, offering travelers a new gateway to the Riviera Maya.

American Airlines has made history by initiating the first U.S. flight to Tulum’s newly opened Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport. Departing from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Flight 1131 is set to take off at 8:15 a.m., becoming the pioneering U.S. airline to land at this airport and marking the first international arrival since commercial flights commenced in December 2023. Travelers on this inaugural flight are in for a treat, with authentic Mexican Folklorico dancing, delightful treats, and festive decorations awaiting them upon arrival at 11 a.m.

This strategic move by American Airlines includes plans for two daily year-round flights from DFW to Tulum, in addition to flights from Charlotte and Miami. The airline joins other international carriers like AeroMexico, Mexicana, Delta, Viva, Spirit, and United Airlines in offering flights to Tulum. Delta, for instance, will start its flights from Atlanta, while United will commence operations from various U.S. cities starting March 31. Notably, Spirit’s flights to Tulum have been postponed, adding to the anticipation surrounding this new travel hub.

Situated south of Cancún along the Quintana Roo coastline, Tulum’s airport provides a convenient gateway for travelers, offering shorter shuttle rides to the luxurious resort destinations dotting Mexico’s Caribbean coastline. This development not only enhances connectivity but also opens up new possibilities for tourists seeking to explore the beauty of the Riviera Maya.
