Abha Ranta Draws Inspiration from “Friends” for Intense Scene in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi”
Abha Ranta, starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, reveals she drew inspiration from a “Friends” scene for her murder sequence.
Abha Ranta, currently receiving acclaim for her role in the Netflix series “Heeramandi,” has shared intriguing details about her preparation for a pivotal murder scene in the show. Ranta, who portrays the younger version of Manisha Koirala’s character, Mallikajaan, delved into the complexities of her character and her unique approach to embodying the role.
Discussing her character, Abha stated, “I essayed the role of the younger version of Mallikajaan who is as fierce as a tigress. She is always striving to be strong, with her battles focused on dominance and survival. The transition from a vulnerable Mallika to a ruthless figure who would kill her own sister and scar the face of another was a challenging yet thrilling task. I made sure to embody the essence of a tigress in the world of Heeramandi.”
In an unexpected revelation, Abha shared how she drew inspiration from an iconic scene in the TV show “Friends” to prepare for the intense murder scene. “For the murder scene, I drew inspiration from a scene in Friends where Monica explains the seven erogenous zones to Chandler. I read about how serial killers derive a sense of power and control over their victims, gaining disturbing satisfaction from it. This insight into the psychology of such individuals proved useful in portraying the complexity of Young Mallika Jaan.”
Abha’s performance has been lauded for its authenticity and passion, making a significant impact in her first web show. “Heeramandi,” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, started streaming on Netflix from May 1 and has since captivated audiences with its intense drama and stellar performances.
