In response to Colorado’s Supreme Court ruling deeming Donald Trump ineligible for their 2024 presidential primary due to his association with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, California’s Lieutenant Governor, Eleni Kounalakis, urges the removal of Trump from the state’s primary ballot.

Kounalakis emphasized the significance of adhering to constitutional prerequisites, stressing that individuals involved in insurrection are ineligible to hold the presidency. The lieutenant governor, in a letter addressed to Secretary of State Shirley Weber, expressed a need for California to align with historical values.

With the deadline for the certified candidate list approaching on December 28 and California’s presidential primary slated for March 5, 2024, decisions must be made swiftly.
