Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore in ‘Harry Potter,’ dead at 82.

Entertainer Michael Gambon, most famous for playing Albus Dumbledore in the more significant part of the “Harry Potter” films, has died at 82 after “bout of pneumonia,” a statement given by one of the family members confirmed.

“We are devastated to share the news of death of Sir Michael Gambon,” the assertion given by his marketing expert Clair Dobbs expressed.

“Loving husband and father, Michael passed on calmly in clinic with his better half Anne and child Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.”

“We ask that you regard our privacy at this difficult time and thank you for your messages of help and love.”

One of the leading performers of his age, Gambon was brought into the world in Cabra, Dublin, yet moved to London as a youngster. He experienced childhood in an Irish outsider local area in Camden, and his most memorable occupation was as an apprentice toolmaker.  He developed a passion for antique guns, clocks and classic cars that lasted a lifetime.

It wasn’t until the 1980s that Gambon became a household name playing lead character Philip Marlow in the 1986 Anglo-American public television mini-series “The Singing Detective.”

In 1990 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Eight years later he was made a Knight Bachelor for his services to drama.

But it was as Hogwarts’ headmaster Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” film series that Gambon will perhaps be best remembered, a role he took up following the death of Richard Harris in 2002. In all, Gambon was cast as Dumbledore for six of the eight “Harry Potter” films.

Over the course of his career, Gambon won multiple Best Actor awards at the British Academy Television Awards (BAFTAs) and was nominated for two Emmy awards.
