Dallas Grocery Market Fights Food Inflation and Tariffs to Keep Produce Prices Low

As food prices continue to rise nationwide, one Dallas grocery store is standing out for its efforts to keep produce affordable amid growing inflation and new tariffs.

The Cedar Market Ranch, located in The Cedars neighborhood, has quickly become a local favorite. Founded just over a year ago, the market operates with a unique advantage: its distribution center is right across the street, allowing them to bypass middlemen and keep prices low.

“We’re able to get the product and send it straight here with no middleman,” explained co-owner Arnulfo Perez. “That’s how we keep our prices down.”

With the Trump administration enforcing a new 17% tariff on tomatoes imported from Mexico, prices at many grocery stores are expected to increase this week. However, Perez says his team is prepared. “If Roma tomatoes get too expensive, we’ll switch to bola or heirloom tomatoes. The U.S. has plenty of options.”

Shoppers like Ashley Baiz say the price point and variety make Cedar Market a top pick. “The prices are reasonable, and they have a big variety,” she said.

The store has also gained traction online, thanks to the viral efforts of team member Natalya Melian. “I love seeing large families come in and not having to put anything back. That’s the goal.”

According to USDA data, food prices rose 23% between 2020 and 2024, outpacing general inflation. But Cedar Market hopes its community-first model and direct supply chain can continue to ease that burden for Dallas families.
