Missing Dallas Firefighter’s Body Found in Lake Lavon After Kayak Accident

The body of Dallas firefighter Juan Omar Chaidez was found in Lake Lavon on Monday morning, ending a three-day search. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the 37‑year‑old’s body was recovered near Bratonia Park around 7 a.m.

Chaidez went missing on Saturday when his kayak overturned while he was on the lake. Witnesses spotted him and a dog in the water, and later only the dog near the overturned vessel. The dog was rescued and is now safe.

Search crews responded immediately and worked for several days to locate Chaidez. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office deployed patrol units, drone operators, and a dive team, but strong winds and submerged trees made the search challenging.

Dallas Fire‑Rescue confirmed that Chaidez had served the department for over six years as a firefighter paramedic. He was well‑respected and dedicated to serving the Dallas community.

This tragic accident has deeply affected both his colleagues and loved ones. As the Dallas Fire‑Rescue and local authorities continue to support Chaidez’s family, the department and its members honor his memory and service. The recovery of his body brings a measure of closure to a heartbreaking chapter for the firefighting community.
