Hundreds mourn 11-year-old Texas girl who died by suicide after being bullied at school

GAINESVILLE — Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Gainesville on Saturday to honor the life of Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, an 11-year-old Texas girl who died by suicide. Her family revealed that classmates bullied her by threatening to call immigration agents on her parents.

Mourners held candles and signs, calling for justice for Jocelynn. Her family wore white hoodies featuring her photo with angel wings. They want awareness and action to prevent other children from facing similar pain.

Jocelynn died on Feb. 8 after spending five days at a Dallas hospital. The Dallas County medical examiner’s office confirmed her death as a suicide.

Her family learned after her passing that classmates had threatened to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport her parents. Jocelynn had confided in a school counselor about the bullying.

Her death has sparked discussions about bullying prevention and mental health support in schools. Advocates urge schools to take stronger action against harassment and intimidation.

Jocelynn’s story serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of bullying and the urgent need for change.
