Vicky Kaushal to Star as Chiranjeevi Parashurama in Amar Kaushik’s Mahavatar

Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films has announced an exciting new venture into mythological cinema with Mahavatar, a grand retelling of the legend of Chiranjeevi Parashurama. Amar Kaushik, known for Stree and Bhediya, will direct this ambitious project, and Vicky Kaushal will star as the powerful and complex warrior-sage Parashurama. The film, slated for a Christmas 2026 release, marks Maddock Films’ debut in the mythology genre, promising a blend of visual spectacle and deep storytelling.

In Mahavatar, Vicky Kaushal will portray Parashurama, an intense and multifaceted character. Parashurama, one of the seven Chiranjeevis (eternal beings) in Hindu mythology, is known as both a warrior and a sage. Often depicted with his divine axe, Parashurama embodies resilience, justice, and retribution. He serves as an avatar of Vishnu, symbolizing the duality of peace and warfare as he works to rid the earth of corruption and uphold dharma (righteousness).

Vicky Kaushal shared the first look posters on November 13, saying, “Dinesh Vijan brings to life the story of the eternal warrior of dharma! Vicky Kaushal stars as Chiranjeevi Parashurama in #Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik. Coming to cinemas – Christmas 2026!”

Production will begin in November 2025. This marks Kaushal’s second project with Maddock Films after Chhaava, further showcasing his versatility. Audiences can look forward to a film that combines mythological depth with modern storytelling, making Mahavatar one of the most anticipated releases.
