Dallas Police Investigate Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

A Dallas police officer shot and killed an armed man early Thursday morning during a struggle after responding to a robbery call at an alleged illegal gaming parlor.

Dallas police spokesperson Kristin Lowman reported that officers responded to a robbery in progress at about 1 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Lancaster Road. As covert officers arrived, three individuals fled out the back door of the alleged illegal game room and jumped a fence. Other officers confronted them as they made it over the wall.

Lowman stated that one of the men pointed a gun at an officer, leading to a struggle during which the officer shot him.

Officers immediately provided first aid and called Dallas Fire-Rescue. Medics transported the injured man to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. The other two individuals were taken into custody without injuries. No officers sustained any injuries in the incident.

Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia arrived at the scene and plans to share more details about the incident on Monday.

The Office of Police Oversight received notification about the shooting, and the Dallas District Attorney’s Office arrived at the scene Thursday morning to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. This marks the third fatal shooting involving a Dallas police officer this year.
