AR Rahman Documentary “Headhunting to Beatboxing” to Premiere at IFFI 2024
AR Rahman and Rohit Gupta’s eagerly awaited documentary “Headhunting to Beatboxing” will captivate audiences at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024. This follows its first look unveiling at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, marking its world premiere in Australia.
The documentary explores Nagaland’s rich musical heritage, tracing its evolution from ancient headhunting traditions to a modern-day musical renaissance. It offers a unique glimpse into the transformative power of music across cultures, tribes, and generations.
AR Rahman expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The film is special as it sheds light on Nagaland’s cultural and musical history. Rohit and I look forward to showcasing it at IFFM and sharing it with Melbourne audiences.”
Director Rohit Gupta remarked, “We are honored to present ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ at IFFM. The narrative resonates globally, highlighting music’s healing power. After five years of crafting, we’re eager to unveil Nagaland’s cultural tapestry through a new musical lens.”
This marks AR Rahman’s second significant venture into producing, following “99 Songs” at the Busan International Film Festival. Rahman’s vision underscores his commitment to celebrating music as a universal language transcending boundaries.

“Headhunting to Beatboxing,” directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman, boasts executive producers Abu Metha, Adam J. Greig, Theja Meru, Sheila Houlahan, and Rohhit Daas. IFFM 2024, celebrating its 15th anniversary, runs from August 15 to 25, promising a vibrant celebration of Indian cinema supported by the Victorian Government.
