Morning Shows of Kalki 2898 AD Hindi Version Cancelled Due to KDM Issue

The much-awaited film Kalki 2898 AD released today worldwide in multiple languages – Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam – and in various formats – 2D, 3D, and IMAX. The advance booking has been very encouraging, especially for the IMAX shows. However, many excited moviegoers who turned up to watch the morning show of Kalki 2898 AD’s Hindi version in several IMAX theatres faced disappointment as these shows did not play.

A multiplex official explained, “To start the film in a theatre, a KDM (Key Delivery Message), which is like a passkey, needs to be issued by the distributor. Only then can the film be accessed and played for viewers. Many IMAX theatres didn’t receive the KDM for the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD. Hence, they couldn’t play the morning show. The exhibitors had no choice but to refund the ticket amount.”

The source continued, “Many tickets were sold as it’s one of the biggest films of the year. The patrons were highly upset about knowing that the show was not happening. Some even got agitated. But we were helpless. Let’s hope the KDM arrives so that at least the afternoon shows can be played.”

An IMAX show of the Tamil version in Chennai also didn’t play due to the same reason. It is, however, not clear how many IMAX screens didn’t play the morning show of Kalki 2898 AD’s Hindi version. The source added, “The Telugu shows of Kalki 2898 AD in IMAX played without any problem as their KDM was delivered on time.”

On the morning of Monday, June 24, the distributor of Kalki 2898 AD asked exhibitors to keep the IMAX bookings on hold. Accordingly, the theatres stopped selling tickets. On Monday evening, the exhibitors resumed ticket sales and informed viewers that only the 2D version would play in IMAX.

Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Nag Ashwin directed the film, backed by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies.
