Texas Park Shooting During Juneteenth Celebration Leaves 2 Dead, 6 Injured

ROUND ROCK, Texas — A tragic shooting during a Juneteenth celebration at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas, has left two people dead and six others wounded, including two children, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday during a concert at the park, located approximately 19 miles north of Austin. According to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks, the shooting erupted following an altercation between two groups.

“The two victims who tragically lost their lives were not involved in the initial argument,” Chief Banks stated during a press briefing at the scene.

Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting four adults and two children to local trauma centers with severe injuries, as confirmed by a statement from Austin-Travis County EMS.

As of Sunday, law enforcement had not apprehended a suspect, and the number of shooters involved remained undetermined.

“It’s heartbreaking for a family that came out to enjoy an evening and now faces a life forever altered by someone who showed no regard for others’ lives,” Chief Banks expressed.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in their efforts.

The shooting casts a shadow over the Juneteenth celebrations, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
