Dallas Shooting: 6 Charged with Murder in Shooting That Killed Man, 33, Injured Child, 12
DALLAS – Dallas police have charged six individuals, including a 14-year-old, with murder in connection to a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man and injured a 12-year-old boy.
Jose Granadoes-Cerritos, 33, was shot and killed while riding inside a truck on Jonelle Avenue in Southeast Dallas on May 19. A 12-year-old boy in the truck was also shot, while the driver and another juvenile passenger escaped injury.
On Wednesday, police announced the arrests of seven people related to the shooting, with six facing murder charges:
- Valerie Davalos, 21
- Guillermo Alvarez, 18
- John Marquez, 18
- An unnamed 14-year-old
- An unnamed 16-year-old
- Kimberly Mejia, 19
- Alexis Rosales, 26 (charged with probation violation)
The arrest warrant affidavit for Alvarez reveals the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident. A witness reported being in a blue Toyota Corolla heading to a baby shower when the truck carrying Granadoes-Cerritos and the 12-year-old collided with their vehicle. Video footage from inside the car shows passengers instructing the driver to cut off the truck, forcing it onto Jonelle Avenue.
Police believe the people in the Corolla alerted the suspects, informing them of the truck’s location. Surveillance footage from Jonelle Avenue captured the suspects arming themselves and positioning on the street as the truck approached. The suspects opened fire on the truck as it passed, then fled the scene in their vehicles.
Authorities identified the suspected shooters using photos from the baby shower, license plate reading cameras, and witness statements.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the devastating impact of gun violence in our communities. The Dallas police continue their investigation, seeking justice for the victims and their families.
