Dallas Braces for More Storms After Day of Heavy Rain and Flooding

Dallas, TX – North Texas braces for another wave of storms Thursday night, following a day of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for parts of the area until 2:30 a.m.

The stormy weather began early Thursday morning with a system developing to the northwest, bringing heavy rain to the Dallas-Fort Worth area by the afternoon. Although earlier flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings have expired, the threat of flooding remains high.

The heavy rainfall posed a significant threat, particularly to low-lying areas. Dallas Fire-Rescue crews rescued a city employee, Marcus Williams, who became stranded in his work truck due to rising waters at Moss Soccer Park in North Dallas. Williams, who was attempting to make repairs at the park, stayed in his vehicle until help arrived due to the dangerous current.

In another incident, Carol Hoff’s car stalled near her North Dallas home when a clogged storm drain caused flooding. These incidents highlight the challenges faced by residents and city crews dealing with the aftermath of the storms.

The persistent stormy pattern complicates efforts by city crews and Oncor to clean up and make repairs. Thursday’s storms caused new power outages, affecting crews working to restore power from earlier in the week. Oncor stated that most residents should have power restored by Friday, though those in harder-hit areas such as North Dallas, East Dallas, and Mesquite may not see restoration until Saturday.

After a brief respite Thursday evening, North Texas prepares for another disturbance expected to bring stronger storms later in the night. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of North Texas under a “slight” risk of severe weather, rated 2 out of 5.
