North Texas Schools Remain Closed Due to Storm Damage

GARLAND, Texas – Severe storm damage and ongoing power outages have prompted several North Texas school districts to extend closures for a second day, affecting classes and activities.

Garland ISD announced the cancellation of Wednesday’s classes, with updates expected regarding plans for the originally scheduled final day on Thursday.

Irving ISD also suspended all classes and activities for Wednesday due to persistent power outages and Dallas County’s disaster declaration. Students in Irving will not need to make up the missed day.

In Grand Prairie ISD, high school graduation ceremonies were postponed. Initially scheduled for Wednesday at the Texas Trust CU Theatre, ongoing power issues delayed the ceremonies. The graduations for Grand Prairie High School and South Grand Prairie High School have been rescheduled to Friday at the Ellis Davis Fieldhouse in Dallas.

While Dallas ISD schools are already closed for summer break, certain camps and activities were planned for this week on specific campuses. The district has announced that all high school campuses will be open Wednesday for band and dance camps, with all other on-campus activities canceled.

Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD has instructed summer staff members to work from home on Wednesday amidst the ongoing disruptions.
