Dallas County Judge Slashes Bail for State Fair Shooting Suspect

Dallas County judge cuts bail for Cameron Turner, accused in the State Fair of Texas shootings, from $1.6 million to $350,000.

Dallas County judge has significantly reduced the bail for Cameron Turner, the 22-year-old accused of shooting and injuring three people during the State Fair of Texas. Court documents reveal that the total bail was slashed from $1.6 million to $350,000.

Turner faces three second-degree felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one third-degree felony count of unlawful carrying of a weapon in a prohibited place, as indicated by court records. He was indicted on the assault charges on Nov. 21 and the weapons charge on Dec. 27.

Initially, a judge set bail for each assault charge at $500,000 on Oct. 15, but the amounts were reduced to $100,000 each on a Thursday. The bail for the unlawful carrying charge, initially set at $100,000 on Nov. 2, was further reduced to $50,000 on the same Thursday.

Court documents suggest that Turner might be eligible for electronic monitoring and house arrest, raising concerns among prosecutors who opposed the reductions.

Assigned by Dallas County District Court Judge Nancy Mulder, the new bail amounts have reignited debates about the fairness and appropriateness of such reductions, particularly in a case involving multiple charges of aggravated assault.

As of Sunday morning, Turner remained in custody at the Dallas County jail, with online records showing no immediate access to his listed attorney.

Turner was arrested on Oct. 14 after allegedly shooting two men and a woman around 7:45 p.m. in Fair Park’s Tower Building during the State Fair of Texas. The victims sustained non-fatal injuries, prompting an evacuation of Fair Park and a delayed opening the next day.

According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, Turner claimed self-defense, stating he was protecting his family when confronted by a group of men. Surveillance footage captured Turner buying a water bottle before an altercation, leading to the shooting that disrupted the State Fair’s normal operations.

The next hearing in Turner’s cases is scheduled for Feb. 16, with the bail reduction adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing legal proceedings and public scrutiny.
