Texas: Colorado city mayor resigned over controversial social media posts that called his constituents lazy for complaining about power outages.
Colorado City Mayor Tim Boyd took to media and announced that he is resigning after he received backlash for his long Facebook rant.
He wrote, "No one owes you or your family anything; nor is it the local government's responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim, it’s your choice!"
The City and County, and power providers or any other service owner owe you NOTHING, he said.
He further added, if you don’t have water, deal without it or think out of the box to survive and supply water to your family. If you are at home in the cold because you don’t have power and are expecting any rescue team to help you, your laziness is the direct result of your raising!
The Bottom line of his post said, quit crying and looking for a handout! Get off your ass and take care of your own family!"
In his next post, he apologized and said he was resigning from his job as mayor and that he won’t be running for reelection.
The former mayor said, he would never hurt the elderly or anyone that is in true need of help, He apologized for the wording and some of the phrases that were used!"
