Mall evacuated after a small fire broke out Saturday afternoon and the shopping center will remain closed for the day as Dallas-Fire Rescue crews will
investigate the scene.
Firefighters received a call at 1:45 p.m. for a fire inside the Eataly construction space.
Crews
were alerted that a small fire broke out near a trash conveyor, and
firefighters responded to the scene bringing flames under control. They are now
making efforts to clean the building of smoke.
Before
firefighters reached the place, the mall was evacuated, and fire officials
initially said there were injuries reported, but later determined there were no
injuries from the fire.
According
to reports from further Investigations, this fire was accidental and was caused
by "combustible materials, covering an out-of-service escalator belt, that
was ignited by sparks from hot work that was being done nearby."
