Japanese longest-serving Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe resigned from his office because a chronic illness that has relapsed.

This summer, his health concerns raised and grew on top when he last visited a Tokyo hospital two weeks in a row for unknown health checkups.

Abe informed that he has ulcerative colitis, an incurable inflammatory bowel disease, since he was a teenager, and his condition was kept in control with treatment.

Abe’s Prime Minister’s term ends in September 2021 and he is expected to stay on his position until a new party leader is appointed.

Abe said, "It is gut wrenching to have to leave my job before accomplishing my goals."
