International Leaders and local community members of the Hispanic community came together to honor Dallas Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia.

The city’s first-ever Hispanic police chief was honored Sunday at Familia Bethel International in southeast Dallas.

According to the pastor of the church, Marco Rico, in 35 years of his preaching at the church, he has never seen a chief involving (like Eddie) with the Hispanic faith community.

"We never had that encounter with police in churches and community and now I see him walking in the street, in the barrios, mingling with all the pastors," Pastor Rico said.

Chief Garcia said he doesn’t like sitting in the office. He likes to go out and meet the community that the officers are serving. Garcia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
