Dallas police chief has cleared the state exam and becomes a certified peace officer in Texas after being newly sworn in at DPD.

Eddie Garcia, 50, was named as Dallas police chief last month.
He served the San Jose Police Department for 28 years and spent the past five years as chief.
Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata said Garcia cleared the state exam and passed his firearms training course.
Garcia will be wearing a Dallas police uniform.
The previous Dallas police chief, Renee Hall, failed to get her certification until several months after being named police chief.
She was hired in July 2017, but could not clear the state exam to become certified as a peace officer in Texas until February 2018.
Hall was studying for her exam while also leading Dallas PD.
