Dallas police officers honored top officers at an annual awards banquet, including one officer who always goes above and beyond the level of a mental health crisis.
Officer Aaron Rucker from the South Central Patrol Division was called Officer of the Year.
During his 14 years of service, Officer Rucker has earned ten commendations and one life-saving award.
He holds a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor’s in psychology on his resume. He’s used both of those degrees to work with the department.
Officer Rucker is actively involved in programs focusing on bringing awareness to mental health issues in the Dallas community. He is part of a team that responds to mental health calls.
He said, “Quite often we get calls regarding mental health whether it is a family member or they don’t know or don’t have the resources. So we’re able to come to them.”
