The big Diwali release in the South is Annaatthe, which stars Superstar Rajinikanth and a mini-army of current and former A-list ladies like Lady Superstar Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Khushbu, and Meena. All eyes are now on Rajinikanth's tentpole to revitalize box-office revenues by bringing the family crowd back to the theatres in droves. So, before we put Annaatthe to the test at the box office, let's look at the aspects that could help it succeed and try to predict how well it will perform on opening day.
In the run-up to Annaatthe's publication on November 4th, Ramesh Bala offered some much-needed clarity on the numbers that mattered. To begin with, the Rajinikanth-starrer will get released in around 3000 theatres around the world. That's enough number to keep Thalaivar fans flocking to the theatres come Diwali.
So, how are the screens divided between India and the rest of the world? The film will get released on around 800 screens in Tamil Nadu alone. It gets expected to do the most business, followed by 600 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined, 150 screens in Kerala and Karnataka, about 200 screens in North-Indian states, and finally 1000-1200 screens overseas. It gets expected to do the next best business after Tamil Nadu.
According to Ramesh Bala, he has set expectations on the conservative side. People would be returning following theatrical closures in some regions, and the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, even if it has subsided slightly.
