'Western performing theatres and Hindi movies are two long-lost friends split in history,' explains Aditya Chopra, India's leading movie director, who is prepared to make his Stage appearance as a filmmaker with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a record-breaking global smash (DDLJ).
Aditya Chopra, Group Managing Director of Yash Raj Films and shows, has to guide many of Indian advanced films' most productive movies. His breakout role, the 1995 love film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, is always in theatres today. It is commonly referred to as DDLJ and gets viewed as one of the best movies in Bollywood film history. It is the most valuable IP in the nation's diverse movie business.
Aditya Chopra is returning to guide DDLJ after a 26-year hiatus, which will be his Broadway debut. He believes that Broadway and Indian movies are "two closed admirers divided in period" because they both enjoy inspiring stories and emotional states across dancing and music. Aditya has been functioning on this dream project for three years and has assembled a phenomenal, amazingly varied team comprised of some of Broadway and India's leading performers.
Yash Raj Films is putting together Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical. The musical will be written by Laurence Oliver Award-winner Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls), with prominent Indian songwriters Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani as composers.
Production design by Emmy and Tony Prize winner Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge!, Hairspray Live!, 33 Varieties) and song direction by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner Bill Sherman would round out the creative team (In The Heights, Sesame Street, Hamilton). Adam Zotovich is the program's Show Runner.
Arrive Fall in Romance. The DDLJ Play will have its opening night at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in September 2022. That will run on Broadway in the 2022-2023 year. Duncan Stewart of Stewart/Whitley recruiting and Shanoo Sharma of Yash Raj Films will lead a worldwide talent process.
