The Fort Worth City Council is planning to honor a woman who was killed by a police officer last year.

A stretch of Allen Avenue in the Hillside and Morningside neighborhood will be renamed after Atatiana Jefferson in her memory.

Last year, she was shot and killed by a police officer present there to check on an open door at her home.

The officers saw her with a gun in her hand, but it was in her own home. She carried the gun after she heard noises. The officers didn’t announce their presence to her.

Fort Worth Officer Aaron Dean was fired and charged with her murder.

Councilmembers did unanimous voting and decided to name the street Atatiana Jefferson Memorial Parkway to honor her.
