Dallas: Large fire destroys northeast Dallas condominium complex

  • By
Early Wednesday morning, a large fire erupted at a northeast Dallas condominium complex. A mother had to throw her children from a window when this incident took place.

More than 90 firefighters worked at the scene to bring the situation at the Sable Ridge Condos near Northwest Highway and Abrams Road under control.

Firefighters arrived at around 1 a.m. when they saw smoke and fire coming out of the first and second floors of the building.

Initially, they worked on extinguishing the fire and stop it from spreading. Soon, they realized that the fire was not under their control and they called up for more help thereafter.

Responding officers used water to put out the flames that were coming from the roof and underneath the floor spaces.

Luckily, they were able to make people out of the 30 buildings. One woman, Megan White shared her experience and said that she ran into her room and picked her 3-year-old and 8-year-old, and threw them out of the window. Her neighbors were coming down from the second floor at that time and they started grabbing her kids. Though her apartment was destroyed by the fire, her kids are safe.

Firefighters are still working at the scene and have kept their eyes on the hot areas to make sure that nothing burns up again due to leftover.

Smoke and water have damaged the majority of the condos and the entire building is expected to be torn down.

According to reports from the Dallas Fire-Rescue team, 90 people have been displaced and The American Red Cross is offering their help.
