Akasa Singh of Kheench Meri Photo fame love Delhi’s crowd

Akasa Singh of hit songs like Kheench Meri Photo and Thug Ranjha was recently in Gurgaon for a show.  The singer talked about her feelings for Delhi people, and she said,  “The majority of people in Delhi are Punjabis, and my set has a lot of Punjabi music. Performing in Delhi is very exciting for me as people consume more Punjabi music here than in Bombay or anywhere else. Jo reaction Mujhe Dilli mein milta hai, woh kahin nahi hai. I love Delhi’s crowd, Dilliwale bade crazy hain, they enjoy everything to the fullest. The audience as a whole is amazing,”

When she was asked questions about her favorite musical category, the singer replied, “I grew up in a musical family, so I’ve listened to every type of music, right from ghazals, to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab, to Michael Jackson, Beyonce and Sunidhi Chauhan. So, my playlist is a cocktail of all these different genres. I have Nahi Saamne, Tere Bin Nahi Lagda (the Bend It Like Beckham version), and even item songs that I listen to daily.”
The singer believes that this is the best time for Indian music. When she was asked about Punjabi singers using sexy lyrics in songs, the singer said, “People make those songs because the audience loves them. And as far as the film songs are concerned, it’s not always the singer’s decision. If I am given a song, maybe I’ll add a few elements of my own to it, but I don’t decide what I’ll sing. It’s the same with remixes – they’re made because people consume them, so I feel the audience, too, is to be blamed. Stop listening to remixes and sexist lyrics, and the artistes will stop making them. Even I sing songs like Chikni Chameli on stage, because they are hugely popular, but if the demand for this music falls, we’ll stop making it or singing it.”
